Who we are

BEAUD is a solo furniture and objects studio based in Naarm (Melbourne), founded by Ben Fleming. The practice emerged during a hiatus from Ben’s doctoral research in coastal geomorphology—a study of natural landforms that informs the studio’s focus on the intersection of physical process and organic, restrained form.

Our work is rooted in a radical commitment to material circularity. By working exclusively with salvaged hardwoods, we honour the decades of carbon sequestered within the grain, ensuring the timber’s second life as a refined object lasts even longer than its first life. We select material not for its perfection, but for the history and character embedded in its past life.

The studio is named after Ben’s dog, Beau. His presence in the workshop serves as a reminder that the most significant things are often the most loyal, grounded, and enduring. Each piece is a quiet resolution between material honesty and structural precision—designed and made by hand to be felt as much as used.
